PROGRESS!!!

This weekend David Bithell (New Digital Art Professor that will be at SOU in Fall) and I e-mailed for an hour getting a program called Processing up. I had a few issues here and there but got the program to work. It detects motion. Here are images of that working. We are both now working on when it detects motion an image will pop up. (with the program you can adjust the radius and so much more. Very open ended)

Using Kinect As A Webcam:

Program #1: Had issues finding a certain file. Will try again.

Program #2: Tried this and it worked but image was choppy then froze my computer.....

My letter I'm sending out to Professors to pass on to their students:

Hello,

My name is Tawnee Kammer and I’m an upper division BFA student concentrating in 3-D Modeling/Animation and Photography. I have been working on a motion sensored 3-D installation piece for the past two terms. In this project I will be using a PC computer, a projector, a mirror or other reflective surface and the Xbox360 Kinect. When people walk up to the mirror/reflective surface, a motion sensor will trigger the projection of a monster torso and the viewer will see the monster rather than their own image. I am designing the monster in Mudbox which is a 3-D computer sculpting program.

I am looking for someone who understands code and could program the Xbox 360 Kinect and PC computer to do what I need them to do. The Kinect already has a following of programmers and Microsoft recently announced that they will completely open the device for PC users. (Microsoft is actually releasing packages for PC users to use and create new programs). I’ve already found a few programs, but my skills don’t lie in understanding code let alone writing it. This will be my Capstone Project which will result in an art show sometime during the 2011-2012 school year. If you’re willing to help with the programming component of this project, you may be able to receive upper-division credit for a projects or practicum course in Digital
Media.
