End is Near

The end of the term is this week and....I must say....It came fast for this project. Lindsey and I decided that over break and for next term we will work more on concepts (over break) then when winter term begins focus with Maya and Mudbox

Not sure how I'm going to do his eye......I want to have the eyeball ripped from someone's eye socket and stitched onto the hand...I will ponder it.

FINALLY!

I have been working on my creatures but haven't had time to post them. I have been experimenting with different looks and will keep doing this and then work on the silhouettes some more. I think I'm making great progress on these guys! They keep getting better and better.

Final Sketch #1

Miles talked to Linsdey and I and about how drawing silhouettes will let us not focus on detail but the form more. I will re-do these since I'm not happy with them and will have better forms.

Here is Nasty final sketch. The only thing I need to do is make the hand bigger in the sketch....Otherwise he's completed.

Character Sketches

Here are my character sketches for Ugly, Grotesque and Nasty. I'm still working on Grotesque at the moment......I'm not entirely happy with my quick sketches but I can work on them more and more to make them to my liking.

The horrible grossness you see below is a creature....he does not have a name yet. He's fat, has pimples/boils on him and some have popped and puss and blood is oozing off of him....He also has slime falling off of him. He has no eyes and can only smell with his 4 nostrils and has bat ears on the upper back hump of his body. How does he attack? Why not body slam you or toxic puss/ooze all over you.
The character below is named Nubs. He is a hand put together with a tongue and an eye to create a slug creature. His weapon is an attached needle where his thumb used to be. His hand has been lacerated in many places and boils/blisters are on his hands from his previous owner.......

The creature above is named Mr. Happy. He is forever smiling and cannot see, smell or hear...How does he function? Well......Who said you can't adapt in other ways? He is a modern day Frankenstein. Being a doll thats been stitched, sewn and surgically torn apart and together again. He has metal spikes for arms (shortened) and a long spike for his legs. When he attacks he puts his large spike up in the air like a scorpian. (A side view is shown how he moves around and such) Does he drag his body or does he push and pull.........

First Meeting

Lindsey and I met and came up with certain criteria for our creations.

1.) Ugly
  • Small scale/Skeleton/Skinny
  • Bone structure noticeable in some way
2.) Grotesque
  • Bulky/Massive/Muscular
  • Liquid substance oozing, dripping in some manner
3.) Nasty
  • PUSH EVERYTHING TO THE MAX!
  • Mixture of skinny and Bulky
  • Multiple parts of anatomy or misplaced anatomy.

Those are what Lindsey and I came up with to guide our drawings. I have a few sketched up but since I have been sick I have fallen behind my work. I will scan what I when I can.

The Beginning!

1. Working Title.

The Ugly, the Grotesque, and the Nasty.

2. One-sentence description.

The Ugly, the Grotesque, and the Nasty will be a collaborative project focusing on the pre-production and development of three 3-D character models. Each character will separately correspond with the terms ugly, grotesque, or nasty. Because each of these terms “takes it to the next level” in terms of ugliness, so will our designs and concepts for each character.

This project becomes collaborative through predetermined meetings and mini-critiques in order to reflect on each other’s work and how the other artist approaches these three characters. We will also have each other to further expand our resources and knowledge of our programs of choice.

Our goal will be to have clean and fully completed concept drawings that will be ready to model in a 3-D program. In addition to this, it would be nice to actually start modeling at least one or more of these characters.

5. The product of the project.

Both artists will have at least three fully completed concept drawings that will be ready to model in a 3-D program. With a great amount of luck and skill, both artists will also have started at least one 3-D model.

6. Visual/written research.
